Yes. I'm watching TV in the Philippines.
My take on GMA7s PINOY IDOL
Well I think this will go the same when Idol is bought by ABS-CBN. It's a shame that GMA 7's viewership loyalty were even lesser than ABC 5's. And it's more of a shame that the Dream Academy franchised by ABS-CBN is waaaaaaay better to GMAs.
Tips to make Pinoy Idol better.
1. Get more credible judges. Pilita Corales is a far cry better than Jolina Magdangal who has proven nothing in the singing industry. Wyngard Tracy as a producer did what? He looks so lazy with his comments and I think he's like judging a barrio festivity. Ogie Alcasid is okay but I think he alone can't save the sinking ship. Err...let me correct myself...can't save the sunken ship.
2. Choose a lively host. I'm quite disturbed with Raymond's hosting. I'm not sure if I'm to blame the writers or should I say the lack of character of Ruffa's bro but this should change. I don't watch teevee that much but Richard should display more wit and display more candid conversations with the judges and contestants rather than a scripted display showing a robotic and boring showcase on TV. I think GMA should be investing training with VJs and hosts that can handle shows like this.
3. Internet visibility. Media companies like GMA should capitalize on the Internet basing it as one of the primary resources of different kinds of media information such as videos, mp3s and the like. If you type, PINOY IDOL on Youtube what do you see? You'll see more Philippine Idol rather than Pinoy Idol vids. If you go to the Pinoy Idol website and you want to go and watch the live IDOL performance you won't see such information. I guess Philippines is not that ready yet investing on more interactive and informative websites and would rather invest on text votes which will give them better chances of ROI. Unfortunately because the show is admittedly a flop by the network itself, this won't be attainable.
4) Pick unique and experienced contestants. If they've chosen one of the blind girls who auditioned, I'll rally for that candidate and vote for her. If they've chosen a runner up contestant from ABS-CBN's Star In A Million I'll look forward knowing that one. If they've focused on the backgrounds of the final 24, the viewers might have enough time knowing them. None of these options were done.
5) Give what is due to the FINALISTS.Each week should only be dedicated to 4 contestants where 2 are going to be eliminated every episoed to make a final 12. So what happened here is they eliminate 4 people a week every elimination night giving no respect and proper identification to the ones eliminated.
I was a fan when I heard that it is to be shown on GMA 7 but unfortunately to my dismay, ABC 5's production was even more interesting and gave more effort in marketing their IDOL franchise.
