6 Malate has had several gay pride celebrations even before it was called the White Party in 2001. It was then organized by John Glenn of Blue Caf� early 90s, then later, Colin McKay of Joy. In 2001, Jay Santos came up with the all white theme and pitched it to Markus Schmidt and Jomar Fleras, the heads of the Organizing committee at that time. Thus the White Party in Manila was born. The White Party (Officially the Pride Party of Manila) has never been celebrated in other cities in Metro Manila on the same day, basically to encourage all gays and lesbians to join in a FREE celebration in just one venue on one night. And where else will it be most appropriate other than in gay Malate? Manila Pride celebrations had always been and always will be a Malate activity, as it is known worldwide to be the gay district of the Metro Manila, as Castro is to SFO, West Hollywood is to LA, and Greenwich Village is to NYC.<br clear="all" />
